Flexible packaging by industry
Industry-specific guidance for food, fresh produce, pet food, supplement and industrial packaging applications, aligned with Regulation (EU) 2025/40 (PPWR) and the RecyClass Design for Recycling Guidelines.
Flexible packaging is specified per industry because three things change with the product: the barrier the product chemistry demands, the format and film behaviour the filling line allows, and the regulation that applies to the product category. The same structure that protects coffee is the wrong answer for cat litter, and the reason is not preference, it is physics and law.
This section gathers the technical analysis for each industry VLM Poliplast supplies, with the oxygen and moisture barrier requirements, the formats that suit each filling line, the mono-material routes aligned with PPWR, and the documentation that has to travel with the delivery. If you already know the format you need, go straight to the quote form.
Industries covered
Aroma barrier
Coffee packaging
Formats, barrier structures and degassing valve requirements for whole bean, ground and instant coffee: high-barrier laminates, kraft bags and the mono-material route for PPWR 2030.
Moisture barrier
Supplement packaging
Ziplock stand-up pouches, quad seal bags and films for protein powders, capsules, tablets and gummies: barrier requirements for hygroscopic and oxygen-sensitive products, reclosure systems and PPWR-aligned mono-material structures.
Grease barrier
Pet food packaging
Technical requirements for dry, semi-moist and wet pet food packaging: barrier specifications, shelf-life considerations, and PPWR-compliant mono-material alternatives to mixed laminates.
Freezer and aroma
Fishing bait packaging
Resealable boilie bags with EVOH aroma barrier, PET/LDPE structures for frozen boilies, quad seal bags with carrying handle and VFFS films for pellets and groundbait, with mono-material options for PPWR 2030.
Breathability
Bakery and pastry packaging
Micro-perforated BOPP bread bags, flow wrap films for croissants and pastry, anti-fog film for chilled display and PET/LDPE structures for frozen bake-off, with Mono-PE and BOPP/CPP routes for PPWR 2030.
Ventilation
Fresh produce packaging
Vented bags and sacks for potatoes, onions and root vegetables, zip-closure retail bags, flowpack bags for portioned produce, lidding film for trays and film for automatic lines, with micro or macro perforation.
Industry requirements on four criteria
| Industry | Defining requirement | Typical structures | Mono-material route |
| Coffee | Aroma and oxygen barrier, degassing valve | High-barrier laminates, PET/EVOH/PE, kraft | Mono-material PP structures |
| Pet food | Grease and oxygen barrier, large formats | Barrier laminates for high fat content | Mono PP and PE structures |
| Supplements | Moisture barrier and reclosure | Ziplock doypack, quad seal, films | PPWR-aligned mono-material |
| Fishing bait | Aroma containment, freezer performance | EVOH barrier bags, PET/LDPE | Mono-material PP options |
| Bakery and pastry | Controlled breathability, grease resistance, anti-fog | Micro-perforated BOPP, BOPP/CPP, LDPE | Micro-perforated Mono-PE |
| Fresh produce | Ventilation and moisture management after harvest | Perforated LDPE and PE, laminates for processed produce | Single-family PE and PP |
The technical framework across industries
All industry applications share the same technical foundation: oxygen transmission rate (OTR), water vapour transmission rate (WVTR), seal integrity, and printability on mono-material substrates. What differs between industries is the threshold each of those has to meet, the regulation that applies to the product category, food contact under Reg. (EU) 10/2011, feed rules for pet food, and how the finished structure is sorted at end of life.

The product, the pack weight and the packing line are enough to start. Each industry leads to a different structure, so naming the product moves the answer straight away.
