Polyethylene packaging film for automated lines
Polyethylene packaging film is one of the most widely used films on automated packing lines. It seals at low temperature, stays flexible in the freezer and comes in three main grades, often combined in one structure: LDPE for general packing, LLDPE where the product is heavy or sharp-edged, and mPE where the line is fast and clarity matters.
VLM Poliplast is a flexible packaging manufacturer based in Romania. We slit PE film to the working width of your VFFS, HFFS or FFS line, print it in 1-8 colours where the pack is branded, and deliver across the European Union and, on request, to other European markets, with full technical documentation in English.
This page covers polyethylene film for product packaging only. It is not construction or greenhouse polythene sheeting and not a damp-proof membrane. Each roll ships with a technical datasheet for the structure and a food-contact declaration of compliance under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.

LDPE, LLDPE or mPE: which grade fits your product
LDPE packs light products, usually at the lowest cost, LLDPE handles frozen, heavy and sharp-edged products, and mPE runs the fastest vertical lines, where clarity and a seal that holds immediately after forming decide the speed.
The grade is set by the product, the line speed and whether the pack has to survive the cold chain.
LDPE film
The most flexible and the most economical grade. Seals at low temperature, so it runs well on fast horizontal lines packing light products.
Bakery, pastry, snacks, dry goods.
LLDPE film
Higher tensile and puncture strength than LDPE, and it keeps its flexibility at freezer temperatures. The default for heavy or sharp-edged products.
Frozen food, bulk products on vertical lines, pet food.
mPE film
Metallocene polyethylene. Superior clarity and a seal that holds immediately after forming, which matters on high-speed vertical lines where the product drops into the bag.
High-speed VFFS, premium mono-material PE structures.
For industrial sacks and polybags in HDPE, see our poly bags. Where the product needs a stiffer, glossier film, compare with BOPP film: we quote both routes when the choice is open.
Matching the grade to your line
| Your situation | Typical starting point |
| Light products on a horizontal line, cost is the priority | LDPE film |
| Frozen, heavy or sharp-edged products | LLDPE film |
| Fast vertical line, product visible through the pack | mPE film |
| A pack designed for the PE recycling stream, ahead of the PPWR grades | Mono-material PE/PE structure, typically LLDPE with mPE |
| Fresh fruit and vegetables that need air exchange | Perforated PE film for fresh produce, macro or micro perforation |
The recommendation is validated with a sample run on your own machine before the series order. That trial run, not the datasheet, is what confirms the grade and thickness.
Order specifications
| Parameter | What we configure |
| Grade | LDPE, LLDPE, mPE or combinations, including mono-material PE/PE structures |
| Thickness | From 25 microns (µm), set by the product weight and the mechanical load |
| Width | Slit to the working width of your line, on separate rolls for separate lines |
| Appearance | Transparent or mass-coloured, white or black |
| Printing | 1-8 colours, or unprinted for secondary packaging |
| Line behaviour | Sealing temperature and coefficient of friction matched to the machine you specify |
| Roll configuration | Roll diameter, core diameter and unwind direction |
| Documents | Technical datasheet per structure, batch traceability and food-contact declaration under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, in English |
| Minimum quantity and lead time | Confirmed at quotation, for the grade, width and thickness requested |
Sourcing PE film from an EU converter
For brand owners and co-packers inside the European Union, sourcing from Romania means one legal framework instead of two: the same food-contact regulation, the same packaging legislation and no customs formalities between our site and your plant. Certifications held: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000 and ISO 45001.
How we work as a company is on the about page, and if you are weighing Romania against other sourcing countries, the sourcing comparisons put the numbers side by side.
Recyclable PE/PE structures and the PPWR
A structure that stays entirely in the polyethylene family is designed to be compatible with the PE recycling stream, unlike laminates that mix PE with PET or polyamide. With Regulation (EU) 2025/40 applying from 12 August 2026 and recyclability performance grades from 1 January 2030, this is where the commercial interest in PE film now sits: the same packing line, running mono-material PE/PE structures instead of mixed laminates.
Recyclability is assessed on the complete pack, labels, inks and closures included, and is declared per ordered structure. VLM Poliplast does not issue a certified RecyClass class. The technical side of all-PE structures is on mono-material PE, and the legislative timeline on the PPWR guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is your polyethylene film suitable for direct food contact?
Yes. Every roll is delivered with a declaration of compliance for food contact under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, a technical datasheet for the structure and batch traceability. Global migration analyses are carried out at IBA Bucharest.
Do you deliver polyethylene film outside Romania?
Yes. We deliver across the European Union from our site in Romania, with no intra-EU customs formalities. For markets outside the EU, delivery terms and the required documentation are confirmed at quotation.
What information do you need for a polyethylene film quote?
Five details are enough: the packed product and its weight per unit, the line type (VFFS, HFFS, FFS or manual packing), the working width of the machine, the film you run today if any, and your priority, whether that is cost, line stability, shelf life or recyclability. With these details we propose a grade and thickness from the first reply.
