Laminated packaging film, duplex and triplex

Laminated packaging film bonds two or three films into one structure, each layer with its own job: the outer layer carries the print and the stiffness, the inner layer seals on the line, and in triplex structures a middle layer adds the barrier.

VLM Poliplast, a flexible packaging manufacturer, produces laminated film by solventless lamination at its site in Romania, prints it in 1-8 colours with the ink trapped between the layers, and slits it to the working width of your HFFS, VFFS or FFS line. Delivery across the European Union and, on request, to other European markets, with structure datasheets and food-contact documentation in English.

This is laminated film for product packaging. It has nothing to do with office laminating pouches or window laminate. Available structures: BOPP/CPP, PET/PE, LDPE/LDPE and PET/EVOH/PE, all with a declaration of compliance under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.

Duplex or triplex: how many layers does your product need

The layer count follows the product’s sensitivity to oxygen, moisture and light, not the other way round. Most products are covered by a duplex; the third layer earns its cost only where the barrier demand is real.

Duplex laminate

Two layers: a printable, stiff exterior and a sealant interior matched to the temperature of your sealing bars. The best cost-to-performance ratio for standard barrier needs.

Typical structures: BOPP/CPP, PET/PE, LDPE/LDPE.

Bakery, snacks, dry goods, fresh and frozen products.

→ Request a duplex quote

Triplex laminate

A third, functional middle layer of EVOH, added when no duplex covers the required barrier and opacity at the same time.

Typical structure: PET/EVOH/PE.

Ground coffee, supplements and protein powders, modified atmosphere packs.

→ Request a triplex quote

Barrier levels are described qualitatively on the page and documented in the technical datasheet of the structure we quote, because they depend on the material, the thickness and the measurement conditions. In the classic BOPP/CPP duplex, the BOPP outer layer carries the print while the CPP sealant layer closes the pack; each has its own page. The full technical background of layers and adhesives is on multilayer laminated structures.

Which laminate fits your priority

Your priorityStarting structureTypical for
Best cost at standard barrierDuplex BOPP/CPP or PET/PEDry goods, snacks, bakery, fast shelf rotation
High barrier to oxygen and water vapourTriplex PET/EVOH/PEGround coffee, supplements, long shelf life products
Recyclability, ahead of the PPWR gradesDuplex BOPP/CPP or LDPE/LDPEStructures compatible with the PP or PE recycling stream
Premium look with protected graphicsAny laminate, ink trapped between layersBranded products where the print must not scratch off

If the product needs barrier film without lamination, or the recyclable mono-material route, those options exist too: we quote them side by side with the laminate, so procurement can compare real numbers. The recommendation is validated with a sample run on your machine before the series order.

The same laminates, as finished pouches

If you fill on your own line, you buy the film. If you do not, we convert the same duplex and triplex structures into finished pouches: stand-up doypacks, quad seal bags, zipper pouches and flow-wrap bags for manual filling. One supplier, one structure, either format.

Formats and closures are on the pouches page.

Where each structure earns its place

Coffee

Triplex structures with EVOH, high barrier to oxygen and aroma, optional degassing valve.

Supplements and protein powders

Oxygen and moisture barrier for hygroscopic powders, with graphics protected between the layers.

Recyclability of laminates under the PPWR

Whether a laminate can be recycled depends on the structure, not on the product it packs. Laminates that stay in one polymer family, BOPP/CPP or LDPE/LDPE, are compatible with the polypropylene or polyethylene recycling stream. Laminates that mix families, PET/PE and PET/EVOH/PE, are not, and remain justified only where a single-family structure cannot deliver the barrier.

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 applies from 12 August 2026, with recyclability performance grades from 1 January 2030. Recyclability is assessed on the complete pack, and VLM Poliplast does not issue a certified RecyClass class: the classification is declared per ordered structure. The timeline is on the PPWR guide, and the technical detail of mixed laminates on PET/PE laminates.

Frequently asked questions

What does solventless lamination mean for my product?

Solventless lamination bonds the layers with a two-component adhesive that contains no organic solvents, so the process uses and releases no solvents. The compliance of the finished laminate is verified through the migration analyses behind the food-contact declaration. Solventless lamination is widely used for food-contact laminates in the EU.

Can you match a laminate we already buy elsewhere?

Yes, we can match a laminate you already buy elsewhere, starting from the technical datasheet of the structure you run today. We quote an equivalent duplex or triplex structure and, where a mixed laminate can be replaced by a recyclable alternative, we propose that option alongside. A sample run on your line validates the change before the series order.
