BOPP film for packaging

BOPP film is polypropylene stretched in both directions, which makes it stiff, highly transparent and dimensionally stable at high line speeds, with a good barrier to water vapour. It is one of the standard clear films of flexible packaging: the printable outer face of many laminates and a packing film in its own right.

VLM Poliplast, a flexible packaging manufacturer in Romania, slits BOPP film to the working width of your HFFS or VFFS line, prints it in 1-8 colours, laminates it with CPP into all-polypropylene structures and delivers across the European Union and, on request, to other European markets, with full technical documentation in English.

This page covers BOPP film for product packaging. It is not self-adhesive BOPP tape and not print-lamination film. Every roll ships with a technical datasheet and a food-contact declaration of compliance under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.

Four finishes, four jobs on the shelf

The finish is not a cosmetic choice: it decides how the product reads at the shelf and, in the metallised case, how well the pack blocks light and moisture.

Gloss transparent

Crystal clarity and shine. The default where the product itself is the selling point: snacks, bakery, confectionery.

Matt

Satin, non-reflective surface with a premium feel. Coffee, cosmetics and brands that want a paper-like look with film performance.

→ Request a quote

Pearlised and white

Opaque, pearl-white body that hides the product and carries strong graphics. Confectionery, ice cream, dairy snacks.

Metallised

A fine metallic layer that blocks light and raises the moisture barrier. Coffee, snacks and light-sensitive powders.

On its own, heat-sealable BOPP runs simple flow pack. Laminated with the CPP sealant layer it becomes BOPP/CPP, the all-polypropylene structure that carries much of the snack aisle, with the print trapped between the layers.

Which BOPP configuration fits your pack

Your situationStarting configuration
Fast horizontal flow pack, product visibleGloss transparent BOPP, alone or over CPP
Premium shelf presence, branded packMatt BOPP/CPP laminate, print between layers
Product must be hidden, strong graphicsPearlised or white BOPP
Light-sensitive product, higher moisture barrierMetallised BOPP structure
Retailer requires a recyclable packBOPP/CPP, all polypropylene, assessed on the complete pack

If the product needs flexibility at freezer temperatures rather than stiffness, polyethylene film is usually the better family: we quote both when the choice is open. Every recommendation is validated with a sample run on your machine before the series order.

BOPP/CPP: the all-polypropylene structure

Because BOPP and CPP are the same polymer, a BOPP/CPP laminate stays entirely in the polypropylene family and is designed for the polypropylene recycling stream. It is a common all-polypropylene replacement for the older BOPP/PE and BOPP/PET laminates, and with Regulation (EU) 2025/40 in application since 12 August 2026, that replacement is moving from marketing language to procurement requirement.

Recyclability is assessed on the complete pack and declared per ordered structure; VLM Poliplast does not issue a certified RecyClass class. The technical side of all-PP structures is on mono-material PP, and the regulatory timeline on the PPWR guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is BOPP film safe for direct food contact?

Yes, BOPP film is suitable for direct food contact. BOPP is polypropylene, a polymer approved for food contact in the EU, and every roll we deliver carries a declaration of compliance under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, a technical datasheet and batch traceability, with global migration analyses carried out at IBA Bucharest.

Are OPP and BOPP the same film?

OPP and BOPP are not exactly the same film. OPP is the general term for oriented polypropylene; BOPP is oriented in both directions, along and across the web, which gives it more stiffness, clarity and dimensional stability. In flexible packaging, the film specified and traded is almost always BOPP.

Is BOPP film recyclable?

Plain BOPP is polypropylene, so it is designed for the polypropylene recycling stream. The limit comes from the finish: metallised BOPP has limited compatibility, so where recyclability is a requirement, gloss, matt or pearlised finishes are the safer route. The assessment always covers the complete pack, not the film alone.
