CPP film, the layer that seals the pack
CPP film is cast polypropylene: made by casting rather than orientation, it stays softer than BOPP, keeps high transparency and seals at a lower temperature. In many polypropylene-based packs it is the layer doing the closing, on the inside of the structure.
VLM Poliplast, a flexible packaging manufacturer in Romania, supplies CPP as the sealant layer of all-polypropylene structures: laminated solventless under BOPP, printed in 1-8 colours and slit to the working width of your HFFS, VFFS or FFS line. Unlaminated CPP is supplied as finished bags rather than as film on the roll. CPP here means cast polypropylene film for product packaging, nothing else the acronym might stand for. Every roll ships with a technical datasheet and a food-contact declaration of compliance under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.
Three CPP variants
Transparent CPP
High clarity and gloss, seals at low temperature. The workhorse for bread and pastry bags and for the sealant side of BOPP/CPP laminates where the product must be seen.
White CPP
Opaque white body that hides the product and carries strong graphics, with the same sealing behaviour as the transparent film. White films start at 30 microns.
Metallised CPP
A fine metallic layer on the cast film: light blocking and higher moisture barrier, while the structure can stay predominantly polypropylene.
CPP or BOPP: two polypropylenes, two jobs
Both are polypropylene, but orientation splits the roles. BOPP is stretched in both directions, so it is stiff, clear and printable: the outside of the pack. CPP is cast, so it is soft and seals at a lower temperature: the inside of the pack. That is why the question is rarely one or the other; laminated together as BOPP/CPP, the BOPP printable outer layer and the CPP sealant make the all-polypropylene structure behind much of snack and bakery packaging.
Unlaminated CPP suits products where sealing temperature matters more than stiffness, bread and pastry above all; those we supply as finished bags. Where the pack needs a stiff printed face, the laminate wins, and we quote both routes side by side when the choice is open. The same cast polymer also closes preformed trays; that application is covered on film for sealing PP trays.

Every configuration is validated with a sample run on your own machine before the series order: with sealant films, the trial run is the specification.
Where CPP earns its place
Bakery and pastry
Bread, sweet breads and pastry sealed at gentle temperatures, in clear CPP that shows the product.
Sealant layer in laminates
The inner face of BOPP/CPP and triplex structures for snacks, supplements and dry goods.
Finished CPP bags
Where the pack does not need a laminate, the unlaminated film reaches you as a converted bag rather than a roll.
Frozen food packaging
Frozen bakery and frozen products, in a cast grade specified for freezer storage rather than a standard one.
Grades built for one job
Cast polypropylene is not one film. Alongside the standard heat seal grades, the range includes films built for a specific condition on the line or in distribution. Changing the grade is usually cheaper than changing the structure, so it is the first thing we look at when a pack underperforms.

CPP in the recyclable pack
CPP is what makes the all-polypropylene structure possible: as the sealant of a BOPP/CPP laminate, it keeps the whole pack predominantly in the PP family, designed for the polypropylene recycling stream. With Regulation (EU) 2025/40 in application since 12 August 2026, that is exactly what retailers have started writing into their specifications. The replacement equivalents for mixed laminates are on mono-material film.

Frequently asked questions
When is CPP the right sealant, and when is polyethylene?
CPP and polyethylene are both widely used sealant layers. CPP keeps a polypropylene laminate in a single material family, stays stiffer and tolerates more heat on the line; polyethylene seals at even lower temperatures and belongs in all-PE structures. In practice the printable outer web decides: BOPP on the outside calls for CPP inside, PE on the outside calls for PE inside.
Is CPP film suitable for direct food contact?
Yes, CPP film is suitable for direct food contact. CPP is polypropylene, approved for food contact in the EU. Every roll is delivered with a declaration of compliance under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, a technical datasheet for the structure and batch traceability, with global migration analyses carried out at IBA Bucharest.
Can CPP film be used for frozen products?
CPP film can be used for frozen products when the grade is specified for it. We supply a cast grade built for storage in the freezer down to -25 °C, which keeps its tear resistance at low temperature; a standard transparent grade is not specified for deep freeze and should not be substituted for it. Polyethylene remains the more flexible and lower-cost route for frozen packs, so we quote both and let the structure decide.
What information do you need for a CPP film quote?
A CPP quote needs the packed product, the line type and its working width, whether you need finished bags or the sealant layer of a laminate, the variant (transparent, white or metallised) and the film you use today if any. With these details we propose the structure and thickness from the first reply, and validate with a sample on your machine.
