Recyclable pouches in mono-PE, made to order
Recyclable pouches are flexible packaging built from a single polymer family, polyethylene, in both the base film and the sealing layer, so the finished pouch is designed for recycling in the PE film stream. VLM Poliplast manufactures recyclable pouches to order, printed in 1-8 colours.
The structures belong to the EcoMonoFilm® range and use BOPE, MDO-PE or LLDPE films, with a very thin EVOH layer where the product needs an oxygen barrier. We make them in our own factory in Bucharest, as the manufacturer, not a reseller, as flat bags, stand-up doypacks with a zipper or grip seal bags, with a sample supplied for validation.
This page is not about whether household carrier bags can go in the recycling bin, and these are not biodegradable or compostable pouches: they are mono-material product pouches designed for the PE film stream, shipped with a technical data sheet and, for food, a Declaration of Compliance under Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and Regulation (EC) No 10/2011.
Mono-PE recyclable pouch or classic laminate?
| Mono-PE recyclable pouch | Classic multi-material laminate |
| One polymer family: the film and the sealing layer are both polyethylene | Different polymers bonded together: PET/PE, BOPP/PE, PET/PA-PE |
| Designed for the PE film recycling stream, recycling code 04 | Layers are hard to separate, so standard streams struggle to recycle it |
| Good moisture barrier; with a thin EVOH layer, covers most dry goods | The highest barrier, for products most sensitive to oxygen and light |
| Aligned with the PPWR recyclability objectives for 2030 | Still the right choice where barrier outweighs recyclability |
If the pack must stand and reseal on shelf, the mono-PE structure is available on the doypack that stands and recloses; if your product needs the full barrier of a laminate, start from the bags with the print locked in the laminate.
Recyclable coffee bags
Coffee is where recyclable pouches are asked for most. The mono-PE structure takes a one-way degassing valve, so freshly roasted beans can off-gas without the pack ballooning, and the thin EVOH layer covers the oxygen barrier most roasts need on shelf. Roasters switch from mixed laminates to mono-PE to keep the same stand-up format and print while moving the pack into a single recycling stream; where a specific roast needs more protection, we say so at quotation and propose the laminate instead.
How recyclability is documented
Recyclable is a design property, not a slogan: the pouch is built so its material can re-enter an existing stream. The European direction is set by Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging, applying from 12 August 2026, with A/B/C recyclability performance classes from 1 January 2030. VLM Poliplast does not issue a certified RecyClass class: recyclability is documented on the exact structure, at quotation, never promised by default.

Who switches to recyclable pouches
Food brands
Coffee and tea with a degassing valve; snacks, dried fruit, nuts and confectionery; pet food ranges; supplement brands moving to recyclable packs.
Non-food brands
Cosmetics and personal care, medical accessories, components and e-commerce goods, wherever the brand needs documented recyclability without changing the shelf format.
Describe the product in the form and you receive the recommended mono-PE structure, and where the barrier is not enough, we tell you openly and propose the right laminate.
Frequently asked questions
What are recyclable pouches made of?
A single polymer family: polyethylene. The base film is BOPE, MDO-PE or LLDPE and the sealing layer is PE as well, with an optional very thin EVOH layer for the oxygen barrier, so the whole pouch is designed for the PE film recycling stream, code 04.
Are recyclable pouches as protective as laminated pouches?
For most dry goods, yes: the moisture barrier is strong and the thin EVOH layer covers the oxygen barrier that snacks, coffee or pet food need. Classic laminates still protect better where the product is highly sensitive to oxygen and light, which is why the choice is made per product, not by slogan.
Can coffee be packed in recyclable mono-PE pouches?
Yes. The mono-PE structure takes a one-way degassing valve for freshly roasted coffee and, with the EVOH layer, covers the barrier most roasts need on shelf, in the same stand-up format roasters already use. For roasts that need more protection, we recommend the laminate openly at quotation.
How do I know the pouch is really recyclable?
Ask for the documentation on the exact structure. VLM Poliplast does not issue a certified RecyClass class: we document, at quotation, how the specific structure is designed for the PE film stream, in line with the recyclability direction set by Regulation (EU) 2025/40.
